New Yatt Riding for the Disabled
New Yatt Riding for the Disabled operates from a purpose built equestrian centre in Wilcote Road, North Leigh. We currently have over 50 volunteers working with 7 ponies to provide up to 40 rides a week. Our riders are West Oxfordshire children, teenagers and adults with physical or learning disabilities who all enjoy horse riding.
We belong to the Riding for the Disabled Association Incorporating Carriage Driving which comprises over 500 groups in the UK and are guided by their Health & Safety; Safeguarding and Therapy policies
As an independent charity we need to raise over £20000 each year to cover our operating costs, including animal care, insurance and site upkeep.
We welcome energetic, reliable helpers to join our term-time sessions which run on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturdays.
We have a specific need for new recruits on Monday 9.15am to 11.45am approx or 1pm to 2.45pm approx when pupils from Springfield School Witney ride with us in 2 separate groups.
- Experience of handling horses and ponies will be useful but reliability, compassion and a sense of humour more essential.
- Helpers are asked to help groom and tack up our horses and ponies; assist the RDA qualified Instructors with mounting and dismounting riders and support the riders by leading or side-walking.
- Field and yard work also required so helpers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. A “Helper Guide” is provided
- All prospective helpers are invited to visit NYRDA during a session to see what is involved and meet the horses and helpers. At this visit we will issue an application form and request a personal reference. We will also undertake a DBS check on applicants, administration cost to helper is £8
We are also interested to hear from a “Handy-person” who could tackle external and internal site maintenance and improvement jobs on an adhoc or regular basis?
